Abstract

Israel sieht sich zunehmend der Kritik ausgesetzt, substantielle demokratische Prinzipien zu verletzen. Ansatzpunkt war eine Reihe von Entscheidungen und Initiativen: Erst im Juli 2016 verabschiedete die Knesset ein verschärftes Transparenzgesetz für Nichtregierungsorganisationen (NGOs), die aus dem Ausland finanziert werden, sowie ein Gesetz, das es dem Parlament erlaubt, Abgeordneten das Mandat zu entziehen. Schon Wochen und Monate zuvor gab es verschiedene Vorschläge aus der Regierung, etwa Kultur- und Medieneinrichtungen stärker zu kontrollieren. Außerdem wurden wiederholt Urteile des Obersten Gerichtshofs missbilligt, was mit der Forderung nach einer Möglichkeit einherging, dessen Entscheidungen durch das Parlament zu überstimmen. Diese Vorstöße haben in Israel, aber auch international für negatives Echo gesorgt. (SWP-Aktuell)
