Wahlen in Taiwan: Votum für den Status quo, kein Mandat für engere Anbindung an China

Abstract

Am 14. Januar 2012 wurde Amtsinhaber Ma Ying-jeou, Vorsitzender der nationalistischen Kuomintang, für weitere vier Jahre zum Präsidenten gewählt. Erstmals fanden Präsidentschafts- und Parlamentswahl in Taiwan gleichzeitig statt. Der Wahlsieg für Ma und seine Partei und die Niederlage der Gegenkandidatin von der Demokratischen Fortschrittspartei, Tsai Ing-wen, fielen zwar deutlicher aus als erwartet. Seinen Erdrutschsieg von 2008 konnte Ma jedoch nicht wiederholen. Das Wahlergebnis wurde von China und den USA mit Erleichterung aufgenommen und als Voraussetzung für Stabilität und Kontinuität in den Beziehungen zwischen China und Taiwan gewertet. Es ist jedoch nicht als Mandat für eine rasche weitere Annäherung an die Volksrepublik China zu verstehen, sondern als Votum der Bevölkerung Taiwans für den Status quo
