Das neue Machtgefüge im Europäischen Parlament: Trotz EU-Skeptikern und Spitzenkandidatenprinzip bleibt der politische Umbruch aus

Abstract

Die Wahlen zum Europäischen Parlament (EP) 2014 haben die europäische Politik in doppelter Hinsicht aufgerüttelt: zum einen, weil EU-skeptische Parteien die größten Zuwächse verzeichneten, zum anderen, weil das EP das Spitzenkandidatenprinzip durchgesetzt hat und so die Kommission enger an sich binden wird als je zuvor. Dennoch stellt sich das neue EU-Parlament ähnlich auf wie seine Vorgänger: Eine feste Koalition mit Regierungs-/Oppositionsdynamik wird es nicht geben, sondern vielmehr breite Bündnisse der proeuropäischen Parteien, welche die EU-Skeptiker ausgrenzen. In Integrationsfragen wird sich die Parlamentsmehrheit unverändert für mehr Vertiefung einsetzen, während sie in wirtschafts- und gesellschaftspolitischen Fragen gerade wegen des Aufstiegs radikaler Kräfte am rechten Rand nach links rücken dürfte.
