Rückversicherung und Stabilität: Die Nato entscheidet über die Truppenstationierung im Osten

Abstract

Auf dem Warschauer Gipfel am 8./9. Juli 2016 wird die Nato zur Rückversicherung der osteuropäischen Verbündeten weitere Beschlüsse fassen. Diese werden über die Entscheidungen des Gipfels von Wales 2014 hinausgehen und voraussichtlich die dauerhafte Stationierung von vier Nato-Bataillonen in Polen und den baltischen Staaten umfassen. Parallel dazu werden die USA Kampfgruppen in den »Frontstaaten« stationieren und schwere Waffen für Verstärkungskräfte vorwärts lagern. Frühere Nato-Befehlshaber fordern eine permanente robuste Vorneverteidigungsstruktur unmittelbar an den russischen Grenzen. Entsprechende Schritte könnten die destabilisierende Abfolge militärischer Aktionen und Reaktionen im Verhältnis zwischen Moskau und der Allianz weiter befeuern. Ein Festhalten an der Nato-Russland-Grundakte und die Erneuerung der Rüstungskontrolle könnten dagegen helfen, dies zu vermeiden. (SWP-Aktuell)
