Bomben auf Bali: Republik ohne Richtung: Indonesien nach den Terroranschlägen

Abstract

Die Hinweise mehren sich, daß die Bombenattentate auf Bali am 12. Oktober 2002 von lokalen Helfern der internationalen Terrororganisation al-Qaida zu verantworten sind. Sie treffen das größte islamische Land der Welt, das sich nach dem Sturz des autoritären Suharto-Regimes mit der schier unlösbaren Aufgabe konfrontiert sieht, sein politisches, wirtschaftliches und Rechtssystem gleichzeitig zu reformieren. Präsidentin Megawati Sukarnoputri hat das Terrorismusrisiko in Indonesien bisher heruntergespielt und vollzieht einen komplizierten Drahtseilakt zwischen der mehrheitlich islamischen Wählerschaft auf der einen Seite, Interessen der Sicherheitskräfte und der USA auf der anderen. Der regionale und internationale Druck auf ihre Regierung wird nach den Attentaten auf Bali zunehmen. Überreaktionen wie eine wieder prominentere innenpolitische Rolle für Militär, Polizei und Geheimdienste würden auf Kosten des jungen Demokratisierungsprozesses gehen und damit den Tätern in die Hände spielen.
