Abstract

Die Bush-Regierung hat dem Kongreß ihren Bericht über die nationale Sicherheitsstrategie vorgelegt. Das Dokument beschreibt die radikalste Neuordnung der amerikanischen Weltmachtpolitik seit Ende des Kalten Krieges. Es behandelt die strategischen Konsequenzen der Terroranschläge vom 11. September, der den Mythos der Unverwundbarkeit Amerikas zerstört hat, bis dahin geschützt durch Ozeane und nukleare Abschreckung. Künftig sollen die neuen Bedrohungen durch Terrorismus, »Schurkenstaaten« und Massenvernichtungswaffen frühzeitig erkannt und beseitigt werden, bevor sie in den USA Schaden anrichten. Dabei will die Regierung die Unterstützung der internationalen Gemeinschaft suchen, aber auch nicht zögern, allein zu handeln. (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
