Abstract

Der deutliche Wahlsieg von Narendra Modi von der Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ist ein klares Mandat für Entwicklung und Reformen. Allerdings steht seine Regierung vor gewaltigen Aufgaben, denn sie muss die Wirtschaft wieder beleben, die allgegenwärtige Korruption eindämmen, die lähmende Bürokratie abbauen, die Infrastruktur modernisieren und ausreichend Arbeitsplätze für die junge Bevölkerung schaffen. Modi ist mit der Herausforderung konfrontiert, einerseits eine Balance zwischen den religiös-konservativen und wirtschaftsliberalen Kräften in der BJP zu finden und andererseits die Befürchtungen der religiösen Minderheiten vor einem Erstarken des Hindu-Nationalismus zu beschwichtigen. Nur wenn er beides schafft, kann der große Sprung zu einem dauerhaft hohen Wirtschaftswachstum gelingen, das Indien auch global ein größeres Gewicht verleiht. (SWP-Aktuell)
