Überraschung in der Türkei: Vorgezogene Neuwahlen

Abstract

Inmitten der Turbulenzen einer schweren Regierungskrise hat das türkische Parlament der laufenden Legislaturperiode ein vorzeitiges Ende gesetzt. Am 31. Juli beschloß die Große Türkische Nationalversammlung, daß am 3. November vorgezogene Neuwahlen abgehalten werden. Der bevorstehende Wahlkampf wird von dem Streit um die Angemessenheit des neuen EU-Reformpakets dominiert werden, mit dem die Todesstrafe abgeschafft, die kulturellen Rechte der Kurden gestärkt und die Menschenrechtslage weiter verbessert wurde. Daneben wird die Frage zentral sein, wem die Wähler zutrauen, die andauernde wirtschaftliche und soziale Misere möglichst rasch und umfassend zu beenden. Die Parteien der politischen Mitte stehen dabei wieder einmal vor der Herausforderung, ihre heillose Zersplitterung zu überwinden, um einen erneuten Erfolg der nationalistischen und religiösen Kräfte zu verhindern.
