Patt auf Zypern: Bietet der EU-Beitritt einen Ausweg?

Abstract

Die dritte Runde der Gespräche zwischen den obersten Vertretern der griechischen und der türkischen Zyprer, Glafkos Kliridis und Rauf Denktasch, wurde ohne nennenswerte Annäherung beendet. Das derzeitige Patt kann nur überwunden werden, wenn beide Seiten von ihren Positionen abrücken und sich aufeinander zubewegen. Das kann entweder aus je eigenem Interesse geschehen oder aber durch den Einfluß externer Kräfte herbeigeführt werden. Alle Akteure haben erhebliche Schwierigkeiten, die notwendige Bewegung in die Gespräche zu bringen. Das mag damit zusammenhängen, daß sie noch sehr stark in den Lösungswelten der Vergangenheit und ihren Imperativen gefangen sind. Eine neue, zeitgemäße Perspektive, das Patt zu überwinden, kann die künftige EU-Mitgliedschaft Zyperns bieten. (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
