Quadrennial Defense Review 2014: Entwicklungstrends US-amerikanischer Verteidigungspolitik und Konsequenzen für die Nato

Abstract

Alle vier Jahre legt das Pentagon einen Bericht über die verteidigungspolitischen Entwicklungen und Prioritäten der USA vor. Die Anfang März 2014 veröffentlichte Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) berücksichtigt erstmals im Detail die Folgen, die sich für das US-Militär aus den 2011 beschlossenen Kürzungen im Verteidigungshaushalt ergeben. Darüber hinaus prägen die Schwerpunktverlagerung - Rebalance - in den asia-tisch-pazifischen Raum und die Kriegsmüdigkeit der amerikanischen Öffentlichkeit die weitere Entwicklung der US-Verteidigungspolitik. Die in der QDR skizzierten Trends bedeuten keine Zäsur für die transatlantische Verteidigungskooperation. Dennoch bergen sie Risiken und das Potential für Konflikte im Verhältnis zu Europa.
