Die Präsidentschaftswahlen in Iran: Welche Chancen haben Demokratisierungs- und Reformprozeß?

Abstract

Nach langem Zögern gab der iranische Staatspräsident Khatami am 5. Mai bekannt, für die Präsidentschaftswahlen am 8. Juni erneut zu kandidieren. Seine Wiederwahl gilt als sicher. Irans Konservative haben keinen Kandidaten aufgestellt, der Khatamis Sieg ernsthaft gefährden könnte. Sie hoffen, daß er mit möglichst wenig Stimmen wiedergewählt wird. Anders als vor vier Jahren steht Khatami heute allerdings zwischen den Fronten. Neben den Konservativen gibt es viele im Lande, die von den Leistungen der Reformbewegung enttäuscht sind. Konnte sich der Unmut über das Regime der Islamischen Republik 1997 noch in Wahlen artikulieren, so stellt sich heute die Frage, ob Wahlen ausreichend politische Möglichkeiten bieten, die Spaltung in der Bevölkerung und die Kluft zwischen Gesellschaft und Regime zu kanalisieren.
