BRICS: Realistische Alternative für globale Reformen?

Abstract

Das jüngste Gipfeltreffen der fünf BRICS-Staaten - Brasilien, Russland, Indien, China und Südafrika - am 8./9. Juli 2015 im russischen Ufa fand, anders als frühere Gipfel, im Westen kaum Beachtung. Haben die BRICS-Länder an Bedeutung verloren oder wird ihr politisches und weltwirtschaftliches Gewicht unterschätzt? Mit dieser Frage befasst sich Professor Herbert Wulf im Global Governance Spotlight 6|2015. Er macht die Haupttriebkraft der BRICS in ihrer gemeinsamen Kritik an überholten globalen Machtstrukturen aus und empfiehlt dem Westen dringend, ihre Aktivitäten ernst zu nehmen und gemeinsam auf eine neue Balance in der globalen Ordnung hinzuarbeiten. Während die wirtschaftliche Bedeutung der Gruppe außer Frage steht, sieht Wulf bei den BRICS Nachholbedarf vor allem im Bereich Sicherheit und Frieden.
