Der Status quo ist keine Lösung: Nuklearwaffen als Herausforderung für Global Governance

Abstract

Es gibt in den neun nuklear bewaffneten Staaten immer noch fast 18.000 Atomwaffen (Tabelle 1), von denen knapp 2.000 kurzfristig einsatzbereit sind. Mit Glück bleiben wir von ihrem erneuten Einsatz weitere sechs bis sieben Jahrzehnte verschont. Wahrscheinlicher ist jedoch, dass die Zahl der Akteure mit Nuklearwaffen angesichts ihrer nicht vollständigen Abschaffung zunehmen wird und sie nochmals zur Anwendung kommen - sei es konstruktionsbedingt, durch ein Unglück, eine Fehleinschätzung oder einen eigenmächtigen Abschuss -, mit katastrophalen Folgen für alle Formen des Lebens auf dem Planeten Erde.
