Von den Diagnosen der Moderne zu deren Überbietung: Die Postsäkularisierungsthese von Jürgen Habermas und der gemäßigte Postmodernismus bei Niklas Luhmann

Abstract

Mit Jürgen Habermas‘ Postsäkularisierungsthese und Niklas Luhmanns gemäßigtem Postmodernismus werden in diesem Aufsatz zwei Sichtweisen einer über sich selbst hinauswachsenden Moderne dargestellt. Der gemeinsame Ursprung beider Theoreme wird in der systemtheoretischen Weiterentwicklung von Max Weber gesehen. Eine weitere entscheidende Gemeinsamkeit besteht darin, dass sowohl Luhmann als auch Habermas sich von einigen Aspekten der klassischen Modernisierungsdiagnose verabschieden und über diese hinauszuweisen beginnen – das allerdings auf unterschiedliche Weise. Während Habermas‘ These von der postsäkularen Gesellschaft einen veränderten Umgang von Staat und Zivilgesellschaft mit religiösen Forderungen verlangt, findet bei Luhmann letztlich eine Wendung zu einer reflexiv-postmodernen Sichtweise statt.
