Was gefährdet die Demokratie? Eine kritische Stellungnahme zur Kapitalismusdebatte in Deutschland

Abstract

Die aktuelle Kapitalismusdebatte in Deutschland arbeitet mit moralischen Schuldzuweisungen. Das Ergebnis ist eine Kombination von hohem Empörungsaufwand und niedrigem Erkenntnisertrag. Im Folgenden geht es darum, nicht innerhalb dieser facettenreichen Debatte Partei zu ergreifen, sondern zu ihr konstruktiv – d.h. kritisch – Stellung zu nehmen. Die Argumentation setzt ein mit einer Situationsbeschreibung (1) und zeigt dann ein Muster auf, wie Politiker auf diese Situation öffentlich zu reagieren versuchen (2). Die für Deutschland mittlerweile typische Diskrepanz zwischen dem eigentlichen Sachproblem und seiner öffentlichkeitswirksamen Thematisierung (3) wird ausführlich am Beispiel der Auseinandersetzung über die Gehälter der Manager illustriert (4). Vor diesem Hintergrund erfolgt abschließend eine Stellungnahme zu der eigentlichen Kernfrage der Kapitalismusdebatte, durch was – nicht: durch wen! – die Demokratie gefährdet wird (5).
