Zu den gesamtwirtschaftlichen Auswirkungen eines globalen Handelskonflikts

Abstract

Unter Präsident Trump ist die Handelspolitik der Vereinigten Staaten deutlich protektionistischer geworden. Hintergrund ist das persistente Leistungs- und Handelsbilanzdefizit der Vereinigten Staaten, das die Regierung anders als die meisten Ökonomen nicht auf den Unterschied zwischen gesamtwirtschaftlicher Ersparnis und Investitionen zurückführt, sondern auf unfaire Praktiken der Handelspartner. Im Fokus steht dabei die Volksrepublik China, die den größten Handelsüberschuss im bilateralen Warenaustausch vorweist. Aber auch den Ländern der Europäischen Union hat Präsident Trump mit höheren Zöllen gedroht. Derzeit prüft das Handelsministerium, inwieweit Zölle auf Automobile aufgrund sicherheitspolitischer Aspekte erhoben werden können.
