Kirchensteuereinnahmen trotzen dem Mitgliederschwund!? Expertise vom 18.12.2018 zum IW-Kurzbericht 78/2018

Abstract

Das Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft in Köln (IW) hat am 14.12.2018 einen Kurzbericht mit dem Titel "Kirchensteuereinnahmen trotzen dem Mitgliederschwund" veröffentlicht. Autor Tobias Hentze führt darin für die beiden großen Kirchen aus, "dass der Trend zu steigenden Einnahmen in den kommenden fünf Jahren anhalten dürfte." Er schätzt für das Jahr 2023 ein Kirchensteuereinkommen in Höhe von 15,2 Mrd. Euro, wovon 7 Mrd. Euro auf die evangelische und 8,2 Mrd. Euro auf die katholische Kirche entfallen sollen. Gegenüber den 2017 vereinnahmten Kirchensteuern in Höhe von 12,5 Mrd. Euro beider Konfessionen würde dies einem nominellen Anstieg um ca. ein Fünftel bedeuten, was einem jährlichen Anstieg von durchschnittlich 3,6% entspricht. Noch am selben Tag wurde die Studie in der Bild-Zeitung aufgegriffen. Ausgehend von einer ersten vorläufigen Analyse werden die Erkenntnisse dieser Studie in Gesamtzusammenhänge eingeordnet.
