Prozeßinnovationen als Schlüssel zu innovativen Produkten: mit neuen Produktionskonzepten in Wachstumsmärkte

Abstract

Der Artikel faßt die Ergebnisse einer Erhebung über das Innovationsverhalten im Bereich von Produkten und Prozessen in 1305 Betrieben der Investitionsgüterindustrie zusammen, die vom Fraunhofer-Institut für Systemtechnik und Innovationsforschung (ISI), Karlsruhe, durchgeführt wurde. Untersucht wurde: in welchem Ausmaß setzen die deutschen Investitionsgüter-Produzenten auf Produktinnovationen? Gibt es größen- und branchenbedingte Unterschiede? Existiert ein Zusammenhang zwischen der Entwicklung von Produktinnovationen und der Verwirklichung einzelner Elemente neuer Produktionskonzepte in der Art, daß Prozeßinnovationen als Schlüssel zu innovativen Produkten wirken? Gilt ein bestehender Zusammenhang zwischen Produkt- und Prozeßinnovation generell oder nur mit Einschränkungen? In den Einzelheiten wird diesen Fragen nachgegangen. Die Ergebnisse werden kommentiert und in Graphiken in Abhängigkeit von der Branche, der Betriebsgröße, der Entwicklungsmethoden (Simultaneous Engineering, KVP, FuE-Kooperation) sowie der Produkt- und Prozeßstrukturen dargestellt. Es zeigt sich, je geringer die Komplexität des hergestellten Produkts ist, um so ausgeprägter ist die Wirkung von Prozeßinnovationen auf die Entwicklung der Produktinnovationen. Deshalb sind Prozeßinnovationen der Schlüssel für innovative Produkte. Neue Produktionskonzepte bieten den Unternehmen die Chance, ihre Innovationsfähigkeit zu verbessern und so in Marktsegmente vorzustoßen, die nicht von einem Kostenwettbewerb dominiert werden und zusätzlich Wachstum ermöglichen.
