Abstract

Euroopan sisämarkkinoiden synty, sääntelyn purkaminen ja muu toteutunut kehitys ovat muodostaneet maanosan pankkitoimialalle muutospaineita, joiden purkautumista EMUn kolmannen vaiheen odotetaan nopeuttavan.Keskustelualoitteessa käydään läpi rakennemuutoksen syyt ja arvioidaan sen todennäköistä suuntaa. Lisäksi esitetään arvio Euroopan eri maiden pankkisektorien tämänhetkisestä kannattavuudesta, vakavaraisuudesta ja kustannustehokkuudesta.Kilpailun lisääntyessä euroalueen rahoitusjärjestelmän rakenteen muuttuminen nähdään järjestelmän vakauden kannalta välttämättömäksi.Toisaalta lisääntyvä kilpailu voi johtaa yksittäisissä pankeissa myös liialliseen riskinottoon ja luottotappioiden kasvuun.
