Valuuttatermiinimarkkinoiden toiminta Suomessa

Abstract

Selvityksessä luodaan katsaus termiinimarkkinoiden kehitykseen 1 980-luvun alusta lähtien.Aihetta tarkastellaan pankeilta kerätyn tilastoaineiston avulla ja tavoitteena on kuvata markkinoiden rakennetta ja yhteyksiä talouden muihin osa-alueisiin.Markkinoiden yleisen kuvauksen lisäksi selvityksessä tarkastellaan termiinimarkkinoita markan arvoon kohdistuvien näkemysten välittäjänä. Varsinaiset valuuttatermiinimarkkinat syntyivät Suomeen vuoden 1980 huhtikuussa.Termiinimarkkinoilla oli 1980-luvulla kuitenkin valuutansäännöstelyyn perustuvia rajoitteita, joista merkittävin oli termiinisopimusten kaupallisen taustan vaatimus.Säännöstelystä vapaat aidot termiinimarkkinat ovat toimineet Suomessa vuoden 1991 alusta lähtien, jonka jälkeen markkinat ovat kasvaneet voimakkaasti.Valuuttatermiinisopimuksia käytetään pääosin ulkomaankauppaan liittyvien valuuttavirtojen ja valuuttamääräisten velkojen tai saamisten suojaamiseen. Keskuspankin rahapolitiikan seurannan kannalta termiinimarkkinat ovat antaneet antaneet arvokasta tietoa markkaan kohdistuneista paineista.Esimerkiksi vuosien 1991 -1992 devalvaatiospekulaatiot näkyivät termiinimarkkinoilla erittäin selvästi.
