Abstract

Este documento de trabajo está dividido en dos partes. Primero, se analizan las tendencias de la banca mundial. Para ello se ha actualizado un documento de trabajo previo del autor, el cual estaba incluido en una serie de siete desarrollado para analizar la Estrategia de Citicorp en Chile. Segundo, se analiza la estrategia pasada y actual entre los dos bancos: el Bilbao Vizcaya y el Santander. Durante la realización de este estudio se anunció la fusión de este último con el Central Hispano. Tercero, y por último, se analiza la posible reacción del BBV frente a esta fusión. Se considera dos alternativas: una fusión con Argentaria y otra con el Banco Popular.
