COVID-19-Pandemie: Sommertourismus dämpfte Beschäftigungsverluste

Abstract

Die Maßnahmen der Bundesregierung zur Bewältigung der COVID-19-Pandemie verursachten die stärksten Beschäftigungsverluste im Beherbergungs- und Gaststättenwesen, sie entsprachen im März 2020 knapp der Hälfte des gesamtwirtschaftlichen Beschäftigungseinbruchs von rund 180.000. Mit Beginn der Sommerhauptsaison verringerte sich der Abbau der aktiven unselbständigen Beschäftigung merklich. Im Juli lag die Gesamtzahl der Beschäftigten um 2,1%, im August um 1,1% unter dem Vorjahresniveau. Wenngleich der Arbeitskräfteabbau im Beherbergungs- und Gaststättenwesen mittlerweile zum Teil kompensiert wurde, war der Bestand im August um rund 10% niedriger als im Vorjahr. Regional fielen die Beschäftigungseinbußen im Beherbergungswesen in der Sommerhauptsaison sehr unterschiedlich aus: Wien war wegen des Ausbleibens ausländischer und inländischer Gäste besonders betroffen, Kärnten dank einer regen Nachfrage inländischer Gäste am wenigsten. Auch die Gastronomie verzeichnete in allen Bundesländern einen Beschäftigungsrückgang.
