The article deals with effective method of building up a GIS project. The types of the spatial thematic information is divided by blocks, according to the data types. Each block contains information on natural characteristics of the ecosystem with its structural components. While mapping a series of geoecological maps, the basic information about the natural features of the region creates a basis of the project. It is derived from the thematic maps collected as cartographic data base of the project. All integrated thematic data about the natural resources and characteristics of the region is structured in the database, subdivided by specific geographic region, according to the thematic blocks to which it belongs topologically and semantically.
