Abstract

The aim of this paper is to assess the recent evolution of provision of courses by the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) from the viewpoint of the labor market. Therefore, data from the Ministry of Education (MEC) on the growth of UFG and from Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) Census 2010, for the state of Goiás, are used. According to the results, it was observed that in Goias, undergraduation areas that have excess supply of professionals are associated with below-average incomes, low higher education occupancy rate, in addition to unemployment. Regarding the expansion of UFG, it was found that the recent growth occurred both in courses that have today oversupply of professionals and in courses in which there is lack of professionals in the labor market. Therefore, the expansion of UFG has not a clear relationship with the labor market dynamics.
