La "Riqueza de las Naciones" y los economistas españoles

Abstract

La opinión de R.S. Coase sobre la famosa obra de Adam Smith sintetiza la de numerosos economistas del pasado y del presente. Muchos son los que iniciaron los estudios de economía leyendo la Riqueza de las Naciones y los que quedaron fascinados por su lectura, desde D. Ricardo, T .R. Malthus y J. B. Say hasta A. Marshall, pasando por J .S. Mill y K. Marx entre otros. Los economistas españoles en los últimos doscientos años han apreciado la importancia de A. Smith y algunos leyeron la Riqueza de las Naciones, pero la pregunta que me planteo en este trabajo es si los españoles aprendieron economía leyendo dicha obra, y en tal caso si siguieron y profundizaron en el pensamiento smithiano, bien para perfeccionarlo o bien para criticarlo, como lo hicieron sus contemporáneos extranjeros.
