Abstract

Es bien sabido que el descubrimiento y desarrollo de la teoría de la evolución en el último siglo y medio ha sido una de las aportaciones más fundamentales al patrimonio intelectual de la humanidad. Tal descubrimiento ha influido necesariamente en todas las ramas del saber y, desde luego, en la historia. Y una rama de esta última, como es la historia de la economía, ha de incluir en su campo de estudio un hecho tan esencial como la centuplicación del pasado humano. En toda ciencia, si se ignora el origen de lo que se estudia, faltará una pieza maestra. En historia, prescindir de ese origen sería revolverse contra la esencia misma de la disciplina.
