Abstract

El principal objetivo que se persigue en este artículo es el tratamiento conjunto de la Topología y el Análisis Funcional como dos ramas inseparables de las matemáticas, destacando el papel de la Topología algebraica en el estudio de determinadas cuestiones en los diferentes campos de la Ciencia, así como la gran ayuda que supone el Análisis Funcional en la solución de importantes problemas que se plantean en dichos campos. Por lo que respecta a la Topología, además de una síntesis sobre lo esencial de su evolución y contenido, se hace una incursión en la Teoría de Catástrofe y en las Matemáticas del Caos como ramas emanadas de la misma. Por lo que respecta al Análisis Funcional estudiamos los espacios vectoriales topológicos, los espacios normados, los espacios de Banach, el espacio topológico dual, el cálculo operacional, la noción de espectro del operador, y el espacio de Hilbert. Finalmente se pone de relieve la aplicación del Análisis Funcional a dos ramas bien distintas de la Ciencia: la Mecánica Cuántica y la Economía.
