Crecimiento y desarrollo: la estructura económica Guatemalteca en el período reciente

Abstract

Se analiza la evolución de la economía guatemalteca tanto en su proceso de producción como en el de distribución y consumo,y como los cambios sociales y políticos han ido afectando a estos elementos, configurando la estructura económica guatemalteca actual. En el periodo reciente y, especialmente, en la última década, cambios de relativa importancia se han venido experimentando; algunos de estos, tal vez los de mayor importancia, han sido políticos y sociales (finalización del conflicto armado); otros han estado relacionados con la aplicación de una serie de políticas de ajuste. Aunque algunos de estos cambios han resultado significativos y han alterado, en cierta medida, algunos de los elementos señalados anteriormente, se muestra que han resultado insuficientes para alterar las condiciones en las que se lleva a cabo el proceso económico en Guatemala, condiciones que marcan el carácter concentrador y excluyente del crecimiento experimentado durante los últimos años.
