Desindustrialización versus Terciarización: del aparente conflicto a una creciente integración

Abstract

La desindustrialización, entendida como el retroceso del peso del sector industrial en términos de PIB y de empleo, es un hecho en la mayoría de los países avanzados y también en España. Al propio tiempo, los servicios no han dejado de crecer y su participación en la economía – PIB y empleo – se sitúa en bastantes países alrededor del 75%. No han faltado interpretaciones que han vinculado directamente la ‘terciarización’ y la ‘desindustrialización’, otorgando incluso a los servicios el papel del ‘culpable de la trama’, como en las obras teatrales más tradicionales. El artículo pretende mostrar que esto último es, en buena parte, erróneo. De hecho, lo que se observa en todas las economías, y también en el caso de España en el que se centra el artículo, es un proceso de progresiva integración de las manufacturas y los servicios, como parte de una trayectoria que conduce hacia una economía y una sociedad de carácter ‘serv-industrial’
