Abstract

В работе дается целостный взгляд на особый вид информационных ресурсов, называемых метаданными и играющих важную роль в информационных системах, анализируются распространенные версии определения этого понятия, которое к настоящему времени не устоялось, предлагается новая более полная его трактовка, приводятся примеры метаданных, используемых в различных видах информационных систем, систематизированным образом рассматриваются функции метаданных и их свойства, обсуждаются вопросы их обобщенной классификации.
