"Search (f)or Work" Der Übergang vom Studium in den Beruf – GeisteswissenschaftlerInnen im interdisziplinären Vergleich
Abstract
Die Geisteswissenschaften unterscheiden sich in einer zentralen Dimension von anderen Fachrichtungen: Der überwiegende Anteil der Studierenden ist weiblich. Im Jahr 2005 entschieden sich über 82.000 Studienanfänger dazu, ein geisteswissenschaftliches Fach zu studieren, wobei über 70 Prozent der Studienanfänger in den Geisteswissenschaften Frauen sind (Statistisches Bundesamt 2006). Ähnlich verhält sich die Geschlechterrelation in der Gruppe der Studierenden. Von den insgesamt 500.000 Studenten, die im Jahr 2005 in einem geisteswissenschaftlichen Fach eingeschrieben waren, beträgt der Anteil der Frauen 69 Prozent (H. Barthel und B. Engljähringer 2007). In einigen anderen Disziplinen ist das Geschlechterverhältnis umgekehrt. Besonders deutliche geschlechtsspezifische Unterschiede finden sich bei den Ingenieurwissenschaften mit einem Frauenanteil von knapp über 20 Prozent, aber auch bei Studenten der Mathematik und der Naturwissenschaften mit einem Frauenanteil von knapp 35 Prozent (Statistisches Bundesamt 2006). In der Gruppe der Rechts-, Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftler ist das Geschlechterverhältnis mit einem Frauenanteil von knapp 49 Prozent nahezu ausgeglichen. Von den 54.000 Absolventen der Geisteswissenschaften im Jahr 2005 waren 72 Prozent Frauen. In den anderen Fachrichtungen überwiegt der Anteil männlicher Absolventen mit durchschnittlich 57 Prozent (H. Barthel und B. Engljähringer 2007).
