Coronavirus (Covid-19) In Nigeria: An Exploration Of The Infection And Fatality Rates

Abstract

This study examined the impact of confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the rate of fatality in Nigeria in 2020, using a time subscript (t ) and a difference-in-difference estimator that describe cases of fatality as a function of the initial conditions of confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the daily increase in the new confirmed cases of COVID-19. The results obtained indicate that the initial conditions of confirmed cases of COVID-19 converge more to the equilibrium position given the positive sign than the daily changes, which also implies that the initial conditions of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 led to more fatality cases than the increase in the new confirmed cases of COVID-19. Addressing this increase will require more enlightenment on the guidelines for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 in the country, the establishment of more isolation and testing centres and the invention of drugs and vaccines for the cure of COVID-19.
