Abstract

Using input-output analysis this paper presents for 1980 a comparative analysis of the Sugar and Alcohol Sectors for the State of Minas Gerais and Brazil. To do so, it was used: the concepts of pure linkages indexes, as well as the Hisrchman / Rasmussen indexes, to define key sectors; the notion of fields of influence; as well as some multipliers analysis. The study in this paper indicates that the Sugar and Alcohol sectors are not key sectors for the Minas Gerais economy. At the country level, the Sugar sector could be an exception. Nonetheless, the Sugar and Alcohol Sectors were important as buyers from the other sectors of the Minas Gerais and Brazilian economies.
