[Local Initiatives in favour of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises]

Abstract

Regional environment creates a set of factors that can be called either stimulants or barriers to the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Local governments should remove barriers, transforming them into promoters. An important feature that has to meet both the national government and the local government to effect changes in the attitudes of local communities by stimulating the entrepreneurial creation of new businesses. Factors associated with local initiatives can affect either inhibit or stimulate the development of local entrepreneurship. The aim of the work is an empirical verification of the impact of local initiatives in Southern Poland for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises. In the study, the following research hypothesis was assumed: Local initiatives have an impact on the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in the studied region. Presented in this article results are partial and come with their own comprehensive research project on "The impact of the regional environment for the development of small and medium enterprises in southern Poland", conducted by the author in 2002-2006
