Abstract

The first question that always comes up when talking about money laundering is: – How is money laundered? Of course that since money laundering is a rather complex and dynamic process, the answer is not easy or one only. The most common way of approaching this issue is through the known and identifi ed typologies or methods of money laundering, which are known by all those with an interest in this matter, since they are regularly disseminated by various organizations that act in the area, particularly the Financial Action Task Force (FATF/GAFI). In order to know a little better the Portuguese reality on this matter, and starting exclusively from data collected in the STRs sent in the latest fi ve years within the framework of the preventive system against money laundering and terrorism fi nancing, we have carried out this refl ection – Money laundering typologies - the Portuguese experience in the latest fi ve years within the framework of prevention.
