Létezik-e a Smith-probléma, avagy mennyire egységesek Adam Smith nézetei?

Abstract

Az irodalomból Adam Smith-problémaként ismert kérdés lényege röviden összefoglalható: ellentmondás van Smith szimpátiára alapozott erkölcstana és önérdekre alapozott gazdaságelmélete között. Ezt a vélt vagy valós konfliktust a hagyomány szerint August Oncken nevezte először Smith-problémának, és abban, hogy ez az ellentmondás a Smith munkásságával keveset foglalkozók körében általánosan elfogadottá vált, jelentős szerepe van Schumpeter Smithről adott elemzésének is. Az itt következő dolgozatban egyrészt azt próbáljuk meg bizonyítani, hogy Smith álláspontja egész munkássága során egységes, vagyis a Smith-probléma nem létezik; másrészt arra szeretnénk rámutatni, hogy ez az egységesség abban is megmutatkozik, hogy a spontán rend paradigmáját nemcsak a gazdaságra, hanem minden társadalmi intézményre érvényesnek tartja.
