A Study of School-Aged Children Height in Modern Rural Japan :An Analysis of Zakoji Village, Shimoina-gun, Nagano Prefecture

Abstract

It is widely known that heredity plays a major role in determining human traits, especially height. This paper is undertaken in order to clarify the determinants of physical growth, considering the genetic factors that are most important for physical growth at the individual level by controlling the position of father, using the posture of school-aged children in a rural village as an analysis object. The height of children born from mothers who did not experience paddy rice planting during pregnancy was significantly positive, especially at a young age. In addition, the height of children who were born in the rice crop failure year in Zak?ji village became the result of receiving the negative effect clearly.
