Abstract

Ce texte examine, en se référant à des données empiriques, la façon dont les femmes et les enfants ont été affectés par la récession et l'ajustement structurel. L'analyse attentive de l'impact sur les femmes (comparées aux hommes) dans les pays en voie de développement est encore embryonnaire. Pour faciliter la compréhension des données de l'enquête permanente effectuée en 1985 en Côte d'Ivoire, on s'est aussi référé aux études sociologiques et anthropologiques existantes. Ces études nous informent sur les structures socio-culturelles, les échanges économiques entre hommes et femmes au sein du ménage, la division du travail pour certaines tâches et types d'emploi (et sur différentes cultures : d'exportations ou vivrières, pour les zones rurales) et la façon dont sont utilisées différentes sources de revenus et par qui. Le point essentiel est que les programmes d'ajustement et autres puissent fournir des opportunités réelles et stimuler certains comportements, pour les hommes ou ... This paper responds to the need to examine with empirical data the way in which women and children have been affected by recession and structural adjustment. A careful analysis of the impact on women (as compared to men) in developing countries has not been undertaken before with this kind of data. To facilitate our understanding of the Ivorian household survey data, we also used existing sociological and anthropological studies. These studies formed the basis of our interpretation of socio-cultural structures, economic exchanges between men and women within the household, the sexual division of labour for certain tasks and types of employment (and on different crops: export/food production for the rural areas) and the way in which different sources of income are allocated to given expenditures and by whom.
