Abstract

Este capítulo aborda la naturaleza de las relaciones entre el individuo y su trabajo a partir del concepto de calidad de vida laboral, la cual es entendida como el conjunto de esfuerzos dirigidos a diseñar, mantener y mejorar los factores psicosociales del trabajo, de modo que los trabajadores sientan que son capaces de satisfacer sus necesidades personales mediante su participación en la organización. Específicamente, este capítulo tiene por propósito abordar los principales factores y procesos que afectan la calidad de vida en las organizaciones, así como sus posibles consecuencias a nivel individual, grupal y organizacional. Para ello, adopta un enfoque psicosocial puesto que, a diferencia de otras perspectivas más centradas en el diagnóstico de las condiciones físicas y químicas del trabajo, es capaz de explicar la gran complejidad de las interacciones que existen entre diversos factores personales, grupales y organizacionales dentro y fuera del trabajo (para una discusión más detallada, ver Salanova, 2010).
