Oportunidades de innovación divergentes: ¿es el territorio importante?

Abstract

La literatura de innovación da un mensaje claro: las oportunidades para la innovación (OI) no están distribuidas homogéneamente en el territorio. La localización de las empresas es importante para explicar su potencial innovador. Dos factores explican la relevancia del territorio: la cercanía de empresas relacionadas y la variabilidad en las características de los sistemas de innovación que rodean a las empresas. Los territorios que cuentan con una masa crítica de empresas aglomeradas, proporcionan ventajas de localización porque las posibilidades de circulación de conocimiento son mayores, y es más probable que se desarrollen industrias de insumos y capital humano especializados. Los sistemas de innovación locales marcan una diferencia, en la medida que afectan la calidad de los servicios de conocimiento que reciben las empresas, la calidad del capital humano, la infraestructura institucional y la cultura emprendedora, entre otros.
