Dynamique de la pauvreté urbaine au Bénin: une analyse en termes d'entrées et sorties

Abstract

Pour analyser la transition dans la pauvreté, ainsi que les facteurs déterminants les entrées et sorties dans la pauvreté en milieu urbain au Bénin, cette étude utilise des données de panel de 836 ménages constituées à partir des enquêtes officielles sur les conditions de vie des ménages (Elam 96 et 99). Les résultats montrent que la proportion des ménages pauvres de court terme est plus importante que celle des pauvres de long terme et qu'au sein des pauvres de court terme, les entrées sont supérieures aux sorties. En outre, les sorties dans la pauvreté sont déterminées par le statut du chef de ménage sur le marché du travail, le secteur d'activité, les variables démographiques, l'appartenance ethnique et l'habitat. Quant aux facteurs d'entrée dans la pauvreté, ils portent notamment sur la localisation géographique et le statut sur le marché du travail des membres du ménage en dehors du chef.
