Abstract

We use conjoint analysis to analyze consumer preferences on protected naturalareas, including the reduction of the risk of fires. Three attributes are considered:biodiversity, dimension of the natural area and the economic contribution that wouldhave to be made for its maintenance and preservation. The results show that the attributecitizens consider most important is the annual economic contribution they would haveto pay. The method also allows us to capture the monetary value of a change in theattributes as well as the willingness to pay for reducing the risk of fires in the site. Thesample comes from a mail survey conducted among people living near the Desert de lesPalmes Park, a protected area located in the Valencian Community (Spain).
