El efecto de las nuevas tecnologías de transacción en la demanda de dinero en España

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the effect of new transaction technologies on thedemand for money in Spain elaborating weighted Divisia aggregates corrected by the effect ofthese technologies. Specifically, the weights used in the elaboration of monetary Divisiaaggregates are corrected starting from the elaboration of a technological progress indicatorbearing in mind the evolution of the number of automatic teller machines and plastic credit cardsof the Spanish savings banks over the period 1983.3.-1993.2. Demand for money equations areestimated for the M2 and ALP aggregates as well as for the corresponding Divisia aggregates(corrected and not corrected by the effect of these new technologies). El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar el efecto de las nuevas tecnologías de transacciónen la demanda de dinero en España mediante la construcción de agregados ponderados Divisiacorregidos por el efecto de dichas tecnologías. Concretamente, se corrigen las ponderacionesutilizadas en la construcción de los agregados monetarios Divisia en base a la elaboración de unindicador de progreso tecnológico construido con arreglo a la evolución del número de cajerosautomáticos y tarjetas de plástico de las cajas de ahorros españolas en el periodo 1983.3-1993.2.Se estiman ecuaciones de demanda de dinero para los agregados M2 y ALP, asf como para suscorrespondientes agregados Divisia, tanto corregidos por el efecto de las nuevas tecnologías comosin corregir.
