Abstract

Antonio Oliveira Marreca foi um economista português (e por um breve período também professor de economia politica) de meados do seculo XIX que, a partir de uma certa fase, se revelou desalinhado do cânone liberal dominante e se aproximou das perspectivas do 'sistema nacional de economia politica'. A sua acção enquanto economista teórico e enquanto doutrinador do nacionalismo desenvolvimentista foi em boa medida ja estudada. Mais obscura permanece a sua intervenção no campo da politica económica e financeira concreta. Caracterizar as posições que Oliveira Marreca assumiu neste ultimo plano - em especial no âmbito da sua actividade parlamentar -, avaliar o respectivo impacto e esclarecer a forma como tais posições se articularam com as concepções económicas mais gerais deste autor e da sua epoca sao os objectivos deste paper.
