A Divisão da História do Pensamento Económico Português em Períodos

The scene of the economic ideas in Portugal, as a politically independent country, underwent a long evolution. Similarly with what has happened in most national experiences, successive epochs, of different span, characterized by the persistence of relatively stable organized, functional system, are apparent. This study aims at identifying each of those epochs and to present an intelligible chronology that may be instrumental to international comparisons. Meanwhile, such exercise may be useful to depict both Portuguese backwardness concerning the diffusion of pre-scientific and scientific schools, and the eventual relevant specificities of the scene of the economic ideas in Portugal. The most important previous attempts to divide Portuguese history of economic thought in periods are revisited in a comparative perspective, namely the ones from Moses Amzalak, Armando Castro and Almodovar and Cardoso.
