    Abstract

The aim of this paper is to examine the question of the sustainability of biofuel activity in the EU in the context of reform of the sugar regime. In this optical an exploratory analysis was conducted. The results show that the biofuel activity is still economically fragile and socially unsustainable. Environmentally, more efforts are needed to improve the performance of this activity, especially in some European countries where the production equipment used is antiquated. Political support is still necessary to finance investment in technology need to improve economic and environmental performance of the biofuel activity.
