Abstract

The present work tried to debate and identify the performance of domestic terms of trade in the brazilian soybean production from 1989 to 2005. Soybean was chosen cause its importance so in the brazilian agriculture production as in the its representative role in Brazil´s external sector. Vector Auto Regression models were employeed to identify main variables releated to formation and oscilation of domestic sectoral terms of trade. The results show that world imports (proxy of external product) and exchange rate are very important to explain the domestic terms of trade in the brazilian soybean production. Moreover, the paper discusses the impact of different concepts of productivity on the performance of domestic terms of trade in this sector. It includes the use of a real monetary productivity concept, which results were compared to those produced when the physic (t./ha) productivity is used.
