Abstract

Research paper on effects of industrial development on employment, living conditions and income distribution in Portugal - reviews industrialization policies adopted between 1950 and 1974, and finds that industrialization made no important contribution to employment creation nor to meeting basic needs, but deepened inequalities in the distribution of income.
