Abstract

(Available only in Spanish) The purpose of this study is to document the trend in the mortgage loan market in Peru in the last 20 years and, on that basis, analyze and understand the economic-financial and institutional factors that have limited or promoted its growth during this period. The document is divided into five sections. The first describes the trend in mortgage lending in the last two decades in the framework of the economic and housing policy applied by the various governments during this period. The second describes the programs that the State is currently executing to finance low-cost housing. The third analyses the current situation of the mortgage loan market. The fourth analyzes the current system of mortgage security and foreclosure and its impact on the development of the mortgage loan market. The last section contains the conclusions and recommendations on policies that contribute to the expansion and stability of this market.
