Abstract

"The German labour market asks more than many others for educational credentials. Individuals with higher degrees are much better off with respect to wages and unemployment risks. The comparison of the qualification requirements for employees with the credentials of the unemployed reveals enormous disparities. Whereas only 15 per cent of the employees carry out low skilled jobs almost every second unemployed is only qualified for low skilled jobs. Not only does this confirm the higher unemployment risk of the low qualified. Furthermore, the analysis reveals that unemployment rates of the low qualified vary dramatically across different regions in Germany." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
